Bell, Rosenberg & Hughes LLP and its guests were delighted
when John Russo, Oakland City Attorney, addressed the September
BR&H Breakfast Forum. Mr. Russo provided an engaging
and challenging address on the topic of California's budget crisis—how
it happened and what the stakes are for the future. Attendees had
the opportunity to meet Mr. Russo informally before and after the
speech, and to ask questions in response to his remarks.
John Russo is Oakland's first elected City Attorney.
He is President of the League of California Cites and he serves
on the National League of Cities' Public Safety Comittee. To learn

Bell, Rosenberg & Hughes LLP was pleased to welcome
Ted Jacob PE, CIPE, of Ted Jacob Engineering Group, Inc., as
the guest speaker at our popular BR&H Breakfast Forum.
During his slide presentation Mr. Jacob provided an illustrated
overview of Iraq's cultural and architectural history, and he discussed
the challenges and opportunities facing the global construction
community during the rebuilding of Iraq. A question and answer period
provided opportunities for Bay Area constuction professionals to
learn more about the potential building environment in Iraq during
the coming decades.
Mr. Jacob's engineering firm, with offices in
Oakland and Pasadena, is the preeminent planning and design firm
for hospital and laboratory projects in California.
Born in 1950 in Baghdad, Iraq, Mr. Jacob is ideally
qualified to comment on the historical and cultural background of
Iraq and the Middle East.

4D software solutions for planning, design, and construction management
Bell, Rosenberg & Hughes LLP was pleased
to welcome Kathleen Liston as the guest speaker at our popular
BR&H Breakfast Forum in February. Ms. Liston explained
and showed real-world examples of how her cutting-edge software
integrates 3D CAD modeling programs with construction scheduling
programs to enable planners, designers, and builders to visualize
projects and project schedules in three dimensions across time.
The resulting visual analysis forestalls conflicts, improves scheduling,
and saves money. This program is also an invaluable tool when reconstructing
time-related issues in construction disputes and litigation.
The construction industry is rapidly embracing
4D modeling, and the attendees got a wonderful introduction to this
new technology.
About Kathleen Liston
In collaboration with Dr. Martin Fischer of the Center for Integrated
Facility Engineering at Stanford University, Ms. Liston helped develop
this pioneering software tool, and she has applied her expertise
in the field on state-of-the art projects such as the new Walt Disney
Concert Hall in Los Angeles.
