Experience

Randy Parent is an experienced construction attorney, nonprofit CEO, and educator.  Randy served as a deputy city attorney for the City and County of San Francisco, where he represented the Department of Public Works, the Airport Commission, the School District, and the Public Utilities Commission on a wide variety of construction, procurement, and contracting matters from conception through litigation and project closeout.  Randy served as special counsel to the city architect and project manager for the city hall seismic renovation and historic restoration project following the Loma Prieta earthquake.  He also drafted the City’s design-build authorizing legislation, initial set of design-build contract documents, and the City’s 2000 version of its general conditions for construction contracts.

Taking a break from the practice of law, Randy served as the executive director and CEO of the California Alumni Association at UC Berkeley for six years, where he led the nation’s largest single-campus alumni association with 96,000 members and a full-time staff of 50.  Randy was publisher of California magazine and led the reengineering of the publication which won the 2007 Best Association Magazine in America award.  He also led the board of directors through a transformation of its governance structure and the creation of its first set of comprehensive policies.  Randy is highly regarded nationally for his expertise in strategic planning and its execution, nonprofit governance, and team building.
